With the club attempting to buck the trend of its decline, opening up a basement club away from the main dancefloor as part of efforts to renovate The Haçienda sadly this only had an alternatve effect.
Having been filled to capacity at weekend prior to the building work, attendance quickly dipped to about 600 each night due to the scaffolding obscuring the club.
Nevertheless The Hacienda continued to attract top DJ’s and live acts to the club as well as showcasing new Manchester music networks like Fat City who held their first event at the club in December.
Across the year live acts included Elastica, The Fall, Hopper with DJ appearances from Todd Terry, Andrew Weatherall, Danny Rampling, Grooverrider, Roni Size and more, the latter coming at The Hacienda successful but short live drum and bass night, Phenomenon One.
